Back the Blue K-9 Force was created in 2016 by Diane Lewis, Jennifer Leggatt and Judy Anderson. The foundations purpose is to provide financial support to law enforcement K-9 units, help departments obtain K-9s and eventually add support for retired K-9s.. The departments do not currently have funds allocated for K-9 safety or medical needs in their budget. We raise monies to fill this gap for these departments and also provide additional safety and peace of mind for the K-9 handlers. In the future we hope to grow our fundraising efforts so we can support more departments locally and nationally.
Arapahoe county sheriffs office adds its first bomb sniffing dog thanks to local non profit.
I am originally from Nebraska and moved to Colorado in 1988. I have a son, daughter-in-law and daughter. We always had rescue dogs in our family. I became interested in helping local law enforcement with their K-9 needs after learning that many didn't have protective vests. After providing K-9 vests for 3 departments we expanded our donations to cover other items: Narcan, K-9 trauma kits, breakaway muzzles, bite sleeves, and assistance with surgeries. It is our philosophy that the safer we keep the K-9's the safer they keep their handlers. We are proud that BTBK9F has helped departments in Nebraska and Missouri as well as Colorado.
I am a married Mom of 2 boys and 3 stepdaughters and have 3 grandchildren. I am a Denver native!! I like to travel, garden, and volunteer. I have always had a passion for animals, so when the opportunity came up to help start this non-profit, I knew it was a perfect fit ! I have enormous respect for police officers and all that they sacrifice every day. I have met the nicest handlers and the sweetest K9's. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to support their efforts.
